I attempted to replace the passenger side fog light assembly on my 1999 9-3 because it had shattered and ran into a few problems:
1. I easily removed the two bolts on the bottom part of the assembly and removed both the electrical connectors for the cornering light and fog light. However, the bolt that is "fixed" to the top part of the fog light posed some problems. When I turned the nut, the bolt turned as well. From looking at the new fog light assembly that I purchased, I realized that the little metal tab was spinning around and I had no way to remove the bolt without dremelling it off. After removing the old assembly, I realized the platic tab on the bumper that the bolt and nut attached to was flimsy and worn away so much that a new nut would provide no support at all. I have tried using a washer to get the nut to hold onto the plastic bumper tab but it doesn't hold. After getting everything on except for the one nut, the light moves back and forth a little. I fear this motion will allow the assembly to rattle when I go over bumps and end up just breaking the bulbs or fog light lens.
2. To top it off, both fog lights don't work now. Also - the rear foglight doesn't work either - (there is no light in the dash display anymore and the fog light doesn't turn on)!!! I get the SID error of Rear Light Failure. I checked the fuses and everything seems fine there. The light for the foglight on the dash lights up when pushed but the front fog lights don't work.
Anybody have any ideas on how to address either the problem with fixing the foglight to the bumper or the problem with none of my 3 foglights working anymore?
