Cracked firewall common on RHD cars...why not LHD?

Hey guys,
It seems cracked firewalls are common on RHD 9-3's, and SAAB even has a kit out to repair the problem, and I believe the cars are actually being recalled in Australia.
This isn't an issue at all on LHD cars? Why exactly?
What would the sympotoms of a cracked firewall be? My steering/front end still feels less than solid, even with the steering rack clamp/brace......but from feedback I received here it seems that its most likely my bushings/old shocks. Is it easy to check for a cracked firewall, since it seems the firewall is covered in insulation material.
thanks guys,
Alex
