99 9-3 SE HOT, 5spd with <80k miles...
Had a slight rattle noise coming from the front right strut/wheel area, but only when making left turns. It was weird, enough to cause concern, but wasn't causing any performance problems so it was on the list of next things to look at.
After parking my car tonight, I decided to turn the wheel all the way to the left to just see if I can look in the wheel well and get an idea of what was happening. Of course, there is nothing to see so I gave up.
Went back out to the car, pulled away and it immediately started to burn something on the right front. Smoke started to come out the passenger side of the engine bay, looked like from under the belt. It smelled horrible but not like oil burning. Any chance I pushed some power steering fluid out during my "check"?
I drove it around a few more minutes to see if it just burned off a little bit of leakage and it drove fine for about 10 minutes until I came to stop and the idle was struggling way low but didn't stall. The car also developed a nice rattle that sounded like a pulley just came loose. But, it didn't feel like any loss of power and when I came to a final stop at my place it idled ok. Any ideas out there? I'm just trying to get a sense of how bad it could be...
If anyone has questions I'll be happy to answer.
This may not be my last Saab, but it's my last used Saab. It has been a fun drive but not fun to fix since I bought it 6 months, 8k miles ago.
