Another issue is the pre-1996 shift linkage. Upgrading it is a good idea, if it has not been already. I think it's about a $300 part. The problem is the bushings in the linkage separate and it gets difficult to shift, then later will not go into gear at all.
Also, the front suspension problems Bill talked about were only the first half of 1995. In 1995.5 they changed it to the later style of suspension, and many early 1995's had the suspension changed over by the dealer for free (no longer a replacement program, so don't even ask). The problem is an incurable steering wheel shake at 60-70MPH.
I'm at 134K on my 1995 900S 5-speed. The biggest expenditures I've had were clutch and oil seals, shift linkage, front suspension upgrade, A/C hose replacement, and new shocks, struts and strut mounts. I did most of these myself, so I can't tell you the cost at a shop, but I agree with Bill....find a Saab-only independent mechanic. The dealer will eat you for breakfast.
