Idler/Tensioner Pulleys Posted by Joe [Email] (#444) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Joe) on Tue, 20 Jun 2006 10:44:33 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had posted earlier about problems with my 1997 900S 2.3L regarding the alternator. It was suggested that the reason the alternator keeps going is because of play in the serpentine belt system.
To fix it I would like to change the idler/tensioner pulleys. How many of each type of pulley will I need? Also, do I need to buy one of the idler or tensioner pulley kits, or is replacing just the pulley ok?
Also, how would I be able to tell if it is the pulleys or the regulator or corroded battery cables that is causing the problem?
A quick recap, I have had the alternator replaced 4 times in the last year and a half. The first time I was told that the bearing went on it, and only 2 months later it went again. It was replaced and 5 months after that it went again, with a brief spark when I tried to start it. 4 months after that it was replaced again. Each subsequent time I was not told what the problem was.
I appreciate any input.
