I think the new replacements are the same as the originals and can be expected to fail in the same way. If you can remove the old one yourself, the repair advertised in the classified section of this site is a much less expensive way to get a working SID. The warranty is 90 days VS a year for a new part, but you need to have the new one programmed when you install it, which will need to be done at a dealer or a Saab shop that has the tech II computer. I'd assume you would be paying for a half hour of shop time for that. If you get your current part repaired you can re-install without programming. The ad for the repair says that steps are taken to prevent the problem from happening again, so it has the potential to be better than a new part. So far the comments on this board concerning the repair have been good, but I don't think that repaired ones have been out there long enough to understand how long the repair will last.
