Boost advice, please

Hello Everybody,
I had my 1999 9-3, automatic tranny, 180 hp, car in for a 90,000 mile checkup yesterday. One of my major concerns was a distinct lack of aceleration. The Saab certified indie mechanic told me that I should see the boost gauge hover between yellow and red while acclerating. However, mine only goes to a little past yellow/white. Therefore the diagnosis is: bad automatic boost control solenoid. Everything else on the car checked out fine. I think that my options are:
1) pay for ~2 hours ($160) to definatively diagnose the APC per the saab shop spec
2) buy a new one and hope for the best, ~$200 I believe
3) replace APC with manual boost control, ~$80-$140
I think that I would prefer an APC to MBC because that will allow the computer to do its thing better. I am looking for advice from the community here. What do you folks think about these options? Did I miss any other options? Are there aftermarket APCs that are better than OE?
Thanks,
Bryce
PS current mods are saab sports exhaust and high flow cat, 2.5" pipes all the way back, next mod is 3" intake, other than that the vehicle is stock 9-3S.
