I've been using Mobil 1 for 20 + years in a variety of cars, I change the oil/filter every 3000 mile for cars with 4/5 quart capacity and 5000 mile for cars with 6/8 quart capacity. I have never had sludge and I run 'em until other major pieces fail.
Honda Prelude 276,000
Dodge Caravan w/notorious Mitsubishi V6 312,000
Volvo GLE 260 w Volvo's notorious V6 274,000
Etc, etc
Currently: 1999 MB E320 4 Matic 140,000; 1995 Saab 900S Convert 112,000
