T7 to T5 swap

I have a base 2000 9-3(T7)and am looking for more power on a budget. Would it make sense to get a used '99 T5 ecu to marry to my car? A used T5 with a MBC+A sounds like a simpler fix than chipping the T7 or an SE ECU/turbo swap.
From the posts I've seen, the black DIC will work with a T5 (just not the reverse).
Any major obstacles/recommendations?
-Thanks
