My 99 has been a great car but like all Saabs its had a few issues. Overall, I would have no hesitation giving the car a good recommendation but here are a couple of things that have happened to mine over the years.
- Heater Box Controls are notorious for binding up and breaking. You might want to check if the airflow directional control has been replaced. Its usually not a question of if, but when. About a $230 part installed.
- DI cassette went at 119,000. Again, usually not a question of if, but when. I keep a spare in the trunk. If you search the rest of the board you'll see that the DI Cassette problem is not limited to one model or year. $300-400 part. Can be more depending on the source or dealer. Very easy DIY replacement.
- Fuel pump went at about 96,000 miles. Surprisingly expensive to replace About $500.
-Turbo bypass valve about 3 years ago. About $250.
- Full Synthetic Oil changes are always recommended.
I am currently at 152,000 miles and use the 93 as my daily driver. The Aero gets to come out and play on the weekends.
Good luck with your decision.
