Shifter loose Posted by keith [Email] (#1462) [Profile/Gallery] (more from keith) on Tue, 21 Nov 2006 07:22:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a '99 9-3SE (Non HO) manual convertible. The shifter stick has just popped up and has come loose. I can still shift into all the gears and it drives fine, but the stick does not shift as smoothly. The gear bock of the transmission seems fine. It is all related to the attachment of the stick itself. I can pull the stick straight up about a 1/4 of an inch. If I hold it down while I shift is moves fine. It feels like something holding the pivot point down came loose or a spring that holds it down came off/broke. I took the leather cover around the shifter and found a small spring that was just lying there, but I did not see where it would attach to. The spring seem a little too light to provide the necessary force required for what I am thinking, so it may not be related and came from some where else.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Any ideas? Does anyone have a diagram of the layout of the components of the shifting mechanism?
Thanks
keith
