Well, I have now taken my 94 900s to 5 shops to receive opinions so I've decided to throw it out to the real experts. The shops have said, exhaust manifold, clutch, transmission and or CV joint. I believe it is the clutch, but before putting $700 into a new clutch I want to ask your opinions.
When the car is under load (the more load the louder) there is a loud noise that is constant rapid clicking/clunking. When I decelerate or put the car in nutral, the noise is gone. The noise is evident in reverse as well. When the clutch pedal is pushed down, just slightly, you feel it fully in the pedal. If you push the clutch pedal all the way down it is gone. The noise is no different going straight or turning. The CV joint never went through the clicking noise on turns which is the usual sign that the CV joint is going.
I have owned 13 saabs over the years and have never had this problem.
By the way, the car has its original clutch and has 188,000 miles on it.
