I have a 2000 9-3 base with 86000 miles on it. I got the car at around 56000 miles 3 years ago. Had the belt changed at by an indie (North East Imports in Maplewood) at 60000 miles among other things. Recently had it into Andrew of Princeton for the first time at about 80000 miles. They checked the belt and said it looked great and replaced the upper idler pulley. Earlier this week, my wife was driving it and noticed the temp gauge shot up, power steering dropped out, a/c stopped working, and the warning lights all came on. Had it towed back to North East Imports and John couldn't figure out what caused it to come off! He put the belt back on, ran it for an hour and it didn't show any signs of recurrence, but in caution, he replaced the belt the next morning and re-checked that after another hour. Still good. So I'm just looking to the board for anyone that wants to weigh in on whether they've seen this before, have any advice on whether I should be concerned about anything resulting from this, etc. (John did say that he's seen where animals get into the engine in garages or driveways and do something that unseats the belt, but he saw no "evidence" of that... ;-).
