Antenna installed incorrectly?

I bought a replacement antenna from EEuroparts, had my local stereo shop install it, and it seemsed to work great at first, but now it looks like the first segment (the biggest one on the bottom) is getting stuck and will not retract completely.
I have not figured out if I can get some silicone spray in there to ease its entry. As the antenna goes down, I can man-handle the fat segment over the lip, and it retracts fully. If I just let it go by itself, it cannot get the fat segment down.
Anyone have a quick solution for this problem?
Thanks.
