I had the opposite experience Posted by Island Saab [Email] (#1239) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Island Saab) on Wed, 14 May 2008 20:13:30 In Reply to: Re: Brakes lack bite, mikeinmn, Wed, 14 May 2008 15:05:59 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
just to make things more confusing.
My 2000 9-3 has 100k miles on it and the brakes had been spongy for some time. About a year ago I had an indy change the brake fluid to Ate Super Blue, but that didn't help the sponginess.
Two weeks ago, I changed the brake fluid to Ate gold, installed new brembo rotors, and new mintex pads.
That helped things immensely. The brakes firmed right up.
It was interesting (to me, at least) because my pads, like yours, had plenty of life in them. They were the original pads and rotors (yes, I made it to 100k on the originals). The pads had life, but the rotors were noticeably thinned. There was a little ridge around the outer circumference where the pads had eaten into the rotors quite a bit.
I either did a better job with the bleeding of brakes or it was the combination of the pad and the rotor wear that made the brakes spongy?
Whatever it was, it made all the difference to me to put on new rotors and pads.
