you're supposed to insert a drill bit or something similar into the hole at "1" to push in a plastic tab, the other side is held by two smaller tabs between 8,7 and 7,6. But you (at least I can't) can never exert enough force on the drill bit to push that tab in. So, most people insert a thin blade or pick between 2,3 and push down and out to lever the tab open. The problem is that if you have too thick a blade, or do it wrong, you will mess up the side of the fob. It's also possible to break the tab, but the back plate can be purchased separately (dealer item).
