We own a 2002 9-3 and a 2003 Toyota Avalon, both at 70K miles.
The Saab goes on its sweet way with only a $500 window power repair to sully its unblemished record. Even the battery lasted 6 years. The paint looks like new. The interior shows little evidence of wear.
The Avalon was purchased off-lease because we had had no trouble with it. We maintain it meticulously. In less than two years it has cost us close to $3000 in repairs, including the a/c compressor, warped brake disks and an unbelievably expensive wheel bearing. The interior still looks very good, but the paint finish is vulnerable to Florida insects, and the hood needs expensive attention.
Guess which vehicle was the better buy?
