The pump on my 2K 9-3 began leaking at the onset of cold weather too. For various reasons I did not attend to it right away, and the leak would actually quit when the weather warmed. I think it was really the seals that were the problem, but if you do all the work to replace the seals (O-rings), you might as well replace the pump while you're in there. I eventually did the job myself and it was the third Saab pump I've replaced (not all the same car). Based on my experience I would say, number one, that the couple-hour drive you have in mind would be no problem whatsoever since you already have in mind to check the level regularly and keep one eye on the temp gauge. These things tend to fail slowly, even if it's not just the O-rings. (Of course, if you are also currently hearing some nasty grinding or shrieking noises and/or the coolant is really gushing out, then it's late and all bets are off.) Number two, even though I did my own, I hesitate to recommend this job to someone that doesn't really enjoy this type of work. You've got to remove a lot of stuff, it's time consuming out on a cold driveway, and some of the clearances are really tight. But if you're patient , broke, or both, it's doable. There are good instructions posted on this board - do a search.
