Hello there.
I'm new to Saabs and turbo cars in general and have had a rough go of it this past month or so.
I've used the search features here and on other Saab forums but can't get a resolution for why my bypass valve sound and CEL still present themselves.
Background: new to me 2001 Saab 93 SE Vert with 84,000 miles. A newer, 2002 engine was installed by the PO before they traded it. That engine should have 40k or so.
I've been tracking down problems caused by the non-Saab garage that did the engine change...mainly vacuum lines that were swapped or had burn holes in them.
The problem:
When I'm hard on the gas and the boost rises, I get a woo-woo-woo kinda sound when I quickly let off the accelerator. I'm fairly certain that this is the same sound that most attribute to the bypass or diverter valve.
Occasionally, I also get a CEL throwing P1110 which is also attributed to same.
Typically, this CEL only comes on when I'm charging up a hilly road -the sort of sprited driving when I'm on the gas, brake hard, and back on the throttle a few seconds later.
I've replaced the bypass valve with a new unit and I continue to get both the hoot and the infrequent CEL.
I've since replaced all the vacuum lines to both the bypass valve and to the solenoid valve that governs it. As a matter of fact, I believe that I found two of those hoses were swapped at opposite ends of the the throttle body. This was rectified.
I also found a busted 90 degree elbow in the other main turbo related valve by the air intake (boost control valve?). I replaced that and the turbo spools up much, much faster than before.
So, new bypass valve, new 4mm hoses, and vacuum lines back where they should be.
I'm still getting the same issues as before (although I'm taking care of other problems I previously didn't know that I had ;) )
I do have another observation to share: to my mind, the solenoid valve doesn't "suck" that much. I ran the bypass hose back to the driver's seat, started the car, put in Drive, held the brake and revved the engine (stupidly unsafe, I know). As the engine was revving, it blew air. The second I let off the throttle, it drew a vacuum. Not enough, to my mind...but possibly it's fine. Again, I don't know these cars that well. I thought that I'd throw that out there just in case.
A last observation is that I can suck until I'm blue in the face and bypass valve holds a vacuum. I can likewise blow until my head hurts and the valve doesn't seem to let anything past. This wasn't the case with the worn out valve that I replaced.
Anyway, sorry for the long winded post but I'm trying to give out as much info as possible to get a resolution for myself and for anyone else who comes searching.
Thanks in advance.
