Wayne,
I'd have to say it started out many months ago as being not everytime. Now, it's turned worse and is everytime. However, ANY rollback will almost always let the reverse easily slide in. I was thinking with that specific symptom that it would be obvious to some expert in here. However, I guess there are lots of parts to go wrong in the transmission.
The wife talked to the SAAB tech the other day, but I wasn't around to get the details. She said he told her about some kind of "electic switch" that's part of the reverse setup and the connection can go bad? I haven't read anything about that in here so I'm really not sure. I just went out late last night between jobs and picked up all the extra tools I need to do that shifter alignment. So, I'm going to try that myself next and see what happens. Hope it's not too hard to do! :) I'll post back.
On a side note, when I drained the tran fluid the plug was caked with shiny metal shaving. Pretty but not so pretty. Not sure if that's normal given the miles at 80K and it's never been changed.
