Coolant leak

I have taken my 2001 9-3 SE vert to two separate mechanics. One said that it was the head gasket and that he did not know how to do this on a Saab (dumb as heck!), so i took it to another mechanic who works on Volvos, BMWs, and other imports and he says he thinks it is the heater core. There is nothing ever on the ground and compression is fine in all cylinders. This is what is making mechanic #2 think heater core, but i have had perfect compression before and it was the head gasket. So does anyone have any opinions what it could be. There is a smell of antifreeze upon startup every few times and then when at a stoplight sometimes as well. I have noticed no difference in leaks from winter to summer if this helps at all. I am just a bit flustered because mechanic #2 says that he does not do heater cores and so i guess i would have to do it myself, which is not a big deal but would take me a considerable amount of time due to my job. If anyone needs any more info to help figure it out i will provide it ASAP! I am just really confused here and dont know what to do with this thing anymore! Thanks all!!
