I just picked up a 2000 Saab 9-3 SE from a buyer who was frustrated with the car as she'd purchased it a couple years ago for a pretty high price. Anyway I've had to do front brakes, DIC, one tire (now four are very good) and fix an electric window. To my knowledge she has done the fuel pump at a Saab dealer for a cost of 1500 and a new serpentine belt and pulley. The car has a few scuffs on the exterior but generally the green color paint is good. Inside the car needs a new left vent, a good cleaning as there are some oil stains, and a few other minor things. The car is an SE but the air is not currently working. The car has around 120,000 miles but I've been told it was a new engine at 55,000. I find the car is surprisingly fast for and automatic and faster than my current car. However, it seems to be fairly noisy at highway speeds.
My current car is a 1999 9-3 SE with silver metallic paint and gray leather interior in very good condition with no scratches and everything working except the air conditioning. However, the car has 230,000 km but does not use a drop of oil. I have had the car for 230,000 km and the dealer I purchased it from thought maybe it was towed behind a motor home or all the miles were highway as it is in excellent condition. I have put in a radiator, battery, brakes, DIC, serpentine belt and radiator fan. I have not had to do the clutch although the bearing does make some noise. The car is good at highway speeds and will get around 40 mpg at 60 whereas the auto appears to get around 33 mpg.
I can't decide which car to keep. My primary concern with the 1999 is I'm worried the fuel pump will go at some point and maybe the clutch plus it is higher mileage than the auto. I'm thinking the auto will go longer as the tranny and engine seem strong and mileage is lower. However, I tend to think the 204 motor is better than the 205?
Any input appreciated. Tough choice.
