I also have a 2000 se (scarab green)with automatic that I purchased a year ago with 133000 from a used car dealer. Good thing I got it cheap because I have put some money into it to get it into the shape I want. The auto trans stopped working 3 days after I got it but I got lucky and drained the fluid a few times,added riselone trans fix and 250000 miles later we are still going well.Do yourself a favor and drain the trans and check the color before you make a decision. I had a few saabs years ago and decided to try the 93, I really like it. As long as the previous owner took reasonable care of the car you should be ok. Parts costs and availability for the 93 is surprising on par with domestics for normal wear and tear items but the electrics in the SE model can get pricey.As for noise levels mine is from the tires(khumo ects at 60 dollars each from tire rack) that I did not rotate properly. I had a broken spring in the front and decided to install eibach lowering springs (was going to do it anyway). I also reprogrammed it with the BSR PPC with an additional 65 horsepower with stock exhaust. The car is a rocket and keeps up with just about anything on the road. The fuel mileage on the highway is a consistent 28 at 70 mph in Florida according to the sid and it seems relatively accurate(I dont see how you are getting much better than that even with the standard transmission car)I do run the AC constantly though.
Bottom Line: Drive the car for a few months before you get rid of the other.You have to put things in perspective realizing that you have a nine and ten year old car that will need some TLC just like anything else.Shop around for your parts.
