Crazy idea about wheels

Has anyone tried different size wheel combo for front and rear? maybe 16 on fronts 17 in the back? or the other way around? in my crazy imagination plus three different wheel sets in garage and a boring friday afternoon is giving me weird but ideas. I remember reading that 16 wheels may actually be better than larger wheels on track due to lighter weight.
Add to that how inherently front heavy our cars are and maybe asymmetrical wheels may more efficiently deal with the front heaviness and FWD.
Anyone had any similar thoughts when tuning suspension? Also aesthetically would it be wrong to have two different wheels front and back maybe in a way to showcase Saab's turbo FWD?
These days any interesting car that's worth mentioning seems RWD or AWD on magazines and online, it almost feels like stupid to drive around in a powerful turbo FWD.
Anyone else crazy and bored?
