Hello all,
I own a 1995 900S hatchback with 105,000 miles and two days ago the SID showed big and fast fluctuations with the outside temperature. I could the SID can show 20 to 40 degrees above the actual outside temperature during city traffic and 5 to 15 degrees above during highway driving. It might or might not be a coincidence but it started happening after I replaced the fan resistor exactly as described here http://www.geocities.com/ng900set/main the fan works as it should now.
I also noticed that after my routine drive home front end gets hotter than before that repair. The hood latch is now too hot to the touch if I try to open it. The A/C cools fine for a while at cold starts and only 50% at highway speeds.
After reading many posts here I thought part of the problem could be a bad outside temp sensor, so as soon as I got home, parked the car and went straight to inspecting it and noticed the insulation in the connector looked deteriorated, but also felt that area was very hot when I was unclipping the sensor from the bumper; even the front grille's chrome felt hotter to the touch. Is this normal? If not, what should I look at? Am I still facing a bad sensor?
The engine temp gauge doesn't indicate overheating; it's steady at 9 o'clock when the car warns up. In fact, I just replaced a leaking radiator with a new Nissens one; put a new thermostat and used blue coolant from the dealer, so I wouldn't think I have an engine overheating issue.
I've also read some posts that mention the outside temperature sensor affects the A/C operation and a faulty one can make the A/C not function properly. I would like to know if that's true for my car too since is not equipped with the auto A/C.
Thanks for your help.
