Idling, throttle surging issues

I've had a few issues with my 2002 9-3SE 5-door with manual transmission, 82K. Occasionally, it will have a rough idle at start-up, but it will smooth out in a few seconds.
Other times, the idle RPM will vary a bit, almost like the AC compressor is cycling on & off (which it's probably not).
On the highway (65- 75mph), it feels like the throttle is surging and backing off, even while the cruise control is on.
I'm getting close to the 90K service, so I could wait a bit longer and take it in early. Oil changed at 5k intervals with full synthetic. Major 30K and 60K services at a Saab service center. This car has been virtually problem-free since we got it in 2005 at 14k (can't say the same for my 2002 9-5 Aero SW - 32K - 90K).
I'm guessing AIC needs a cleaning, possibly fuel filter needs a change.
Feedback welcome - JMJ
