After a 15 minute highway cruise, my oil lamp suddenly came on. Bright red, never had so much as a flicker before. My "sports mode" lamp came on at the same time (has rarely worked before, though I always push the button). Took about a mile before I could pull over due to traffic. Shut down. No smells, noises etc. In fact, car seemed to run fine.

Added half quart of cold Mobil One and let it sit a bit. Started up, light still bright red but no odd noises. I made the decision to drive the 18 miles home, mostly at 65 mph. Again, ran as always, normal water temps and indicated mpg (27) and no smells. Shut down for an hour + at home, went out turned key to check warning light function and no oil light. Started again and idled for 15-20 minutes w/out problems.

Could the sending unit or something in that circuit be grounding out and now be open? Driving 65 mph for 18+ miles with no engine symptoms seems to rule out an actual pressure issue ( I hope). 98 900S 2.3 n/a. 225,000 miles. Regular oil changes from new (I'm original owner), started w/semi-syn and went to full syn after the first 100,000 miles. Almost all highway miles. Car has been driven only twice since August when I got my clunker $ but want this pup running this spring. TIA
