Likely your car came with 205/60-16's. Later 9-3's came with 205/55-16's (gee I hope I got the right, last time I didn't) and the 55's are a much more popular size and hence cheaper. The also ride noticeably better as they are slightly taller. Negligible effect on speedo accuracy, in fact as most speedos are optimistic it might make it right on.
