Buying a Viggen is not that different than buying any other used car only that there may be a higher chance that it may have been abused. Any car that has not been taken care of is a high risk. But you have to weigh that risk against the price. If you can get a car cheap enough that replacing the engine would still make the car cheaper than others, the risk might be worth it. You can minimize your risk by knowing the condition of the car (engine compression check, visually checking if it's been accidented, etc.) it's history (Has all regular maintenance been done on schedule? Has anything out of the ordinary been repaired? Who owned it and how many?).

All that said, ideally you want a well taken care of car, regardless of mileage, that was owned by someone who you like. I would not shy away from a car being sold by a dealer if it checks out to be a good car. Likewise, I would not skip on a car that represents a high risk if I could get it cheep enough to compensate for the risk and then some.

I bought my Viggen from a dealer and it came with very few service documents but of the 6 Viggens I had looked at over almost 3 years this car looked like new, had more power than the others, felt tighter and checked out perfectly. In it's 6 years with me it's proven to be one of the best cars I've owned and it puts a smile on my face whenever I look at it or drive it.

The Viggen is a great car IMO and it'll be a long time before I tire of it. Let us know about what you find and don't hesitate to ask us what we think. Good luck in your search.
