It's been a while since I did mine but I remember taking the whole assembly out, disassembling it. The antenna itself came out ok but the collar or bushing or whatever stayed in the housing. That's the silver part you see in the pic on eeuro's site. That was taken out with a certain size drill. You can likely get it all out if you're willing to disassemble it. It wasn't difficult. At the time, I needed to access the antenna so often, I just cut a hinged hole there and kept in place with velcro.
