Chasing stumble when just barely accelerating

Hi all,
Car is a 1997 900S (2.3 NA, distributor ignition).
For the past 6 months I've been chasing an annoying stumble that happens only when one is applying very light acceleration, such as to maintain speed on a flat surface. It is also intermittent - it is almost always there, but sometimes, it just goes away.
In the last 6 months I have changed:
Fuel filter
Fuel pump
All vacuum lines on the throttle body including replacing evap solenoid
spark plugs
spark plug wires
distributor cap and dizzy
IAC Valve
The air mass meter in the intake
I've examined the butterfly and it doesn't appear to have any play to cause a vacuum leak when it opens.
The behavior is extremely similar to an old 1985 8-valve 900 I had when the Pulsation Dampener near the rear axle began to go out...I haven't found a similar feature on this 1997 car, however. Would something in the Fuel Pressure Regulator cause something like this? The vacuum line to the regulator didn't show that it had any leaking fuel into it...but perhaps the regulator is failing at the initial extra vacuum when the butterfly opens??
That it is intermittent may be a clue??
Any advice is appreciated!!
