I have two issues related to the infamous NG Clutch Cable. First of all, I recommended that a friend who is driving a 96 SET, like mine, in the Great White North [Ontario, Canada north of Toronto] replace his clutch cable with the manually adjustable cable that is marketed by Bilstein-Phibe. He did just that, but the cable came with no papers that would provide any suggestions about making the MANUAL ADJUSTMENT OF THE CABLE and there ain't any Saab sources in his area. He has some ideas, but would like a more definitive source . Does anyone have any knowledge of a source [ex. web site] that would provide a diagram of this adjustment ?
My second point concerns possible solutions for dealing with this cable. These come from the comments made by a guy who I might call "Swede Car East." His name is Chris and Chris comes from an engineering and bicycle background. He lives several blocks from me. His father had a business where they built custom racing bikes. From this Chris learned the mechanics related to the use of Cables on the shifting system in road bikes. When I referred to this guys as "Swede Car East," I relate to this to his well known use of "that other well known Swedish Car", the Volvo. I stop by his home when I see the garage door open and lights on. He is always working with one of his vintage Volvos or helping club people. He has two 1800s on the road and drives a red 444. There are also several 122s in the neighborhood. Anyway, he is obsessed with carborater technology and always has a new innovation to show me [a lot of cable used]. He was informed of the Clutch Cable issue once when I borrowed his tow dolly. His comment and suggestion was that the cable problem was a cable problem which he felt could be remedied by getting some system of lubrication for this cable, which would prevent it from wearing and breaking. Does anyone out there on the other side of Swedish Cars know if there has there been any attempt to address this issue from this angle with the NG Clutch Cable ?
