Seriously, I know what you mean but most of us would probably have preferred a different reference, such as 'The SHO of Taurus'.....not that there is that much wrong with a Z28, but I do think they appeal to very different market. That said, there are many one owner Viggens out there still that are babied, stored winters, etc. Also many Viggen owners do know not to beat on their car when cold. But I will agree that there are some well used versions out there. It took me 2 years and 5 Viggens that passed on paper before I bought mine....but I'm very picky.
Buying one on a budget....very possible. One of my friends bought a '99 from a Honda dealer before it was perp'd for under $5K and the car has done him very well over the past year with no expenses what so ever other than maintenance. It's also his only car DD and he carts kids in it.
My own Viggen, although modified, is my DD, lives outside (no garage) loves winter and is holding up extremely well with no major issues (AC doesn't work at the moment....but it's snowing).
I think Oliver's goal is achievable if he's willing to put time and effort in searching. Craigslist, Kijiji, etc. are your friend because that's where the deals will be.
Where I live, there is a premium on insurance for the Viggen as it's considered a performance car.
