It depends on. The 97 and up NG900 and 9-3 use a different heatercore than the older NG900 so you have a plastic 90° connector that could be the cause of the leak and in that case, you would need a new heater core.
You would also have to buy the genuine heatercore since the after market ones doesn't come with those two plastic connections.
I have only seen one yet but it took me by surprise when I saw what had happened. Maybe if it is enough of grit in the coolant, it wear the plastic paper thin when rushing by just like liquid sand paper.
