Recently replaced intermediate exhaust pipe Posted by IrieTom [Email] (#1032) [Profile/Gallery] (more from IrieTom) on Fri, 1 Apr 2011 06:23:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
My '01 had been getting progressively louder for a while, so now that the weather is getting warmer I finally got a chance to crawl underneath. The intermediate pipe had rusted away at the seam on the rear of the flex portion.
1st of all, I absolutely love the newer-style "bulb and flange" connections. No "muffler donut", and no filthy vocabulary-expanding adventure laying flat on your back trying to dismantle a rusted-together mess.
Secondly, while researching previous discussions on this matter here on saabnet I saw that a few of us had commented that the new part was shorter than the old worn-out one. I experienced the same thing, and I've got a theory that explains why. The replacement part is *not* shorter than the original part. I think that the old part gets stretched out a bit over the course of its service life. Sure, it makes things interesting when reassembling the parts, but I was able to manage without help. If I ever need to do this again, I will make sure to have someone else around to push forward on the tailpipe, as this will make the whole job much easier. Hopefully, this post will save someone a little time and aggravation.
