I just did this on a front and center bolt for my SE this week. It was a project car I picked up that has turned into just that....
I used a Helicoil for the front, but had to change to a 12mm by 1.75 thread rather than the standard 1.5 thread. It held 85 lbs torque.
Center I had to weld, drill out and re-tap. A 14mm by 1.5 tap is not easy to come by locally. I would go the nut on top route if you have to, it will save you a ton of time. Either way its not fun. Good luck
