1997 2.5L manual 150k. (Motronic).
Almost all of the time (but not quite always) it's really hard to start when then engine is cold. It doesn't appear to have much to do with the outside temp though it's in the 30's in MN again today :( It can take cranking for 30 seconds or more to catch and often I think it's not going to.
I've checked the vacuum lines carefully, put clamps on the clamp-less ones to the throttle body, replaced the smaller hose going to the valve cover from the throttle body. Replaced the EGR valve, cleaned the IAC valve (the gate was moving smoothly), replaced the Crankshaft position sensor, replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the throttle body, replaced both coolant temp sensors. The distributor is <2 years old (eeuro), the fuel pump went out and was replaced last year by the dealer in WV. The plugs are less than a year old. The wires are in great shape. The check engine light is not on.
Once it starts it can be balky coming off idle but perfectly smooth on idle and when driving seems to have the same power it always had.
If I had to guess, I'd say perhaps the trouble started around the time the fuel pump was replaced but that could be a coincidence. It's definitely not starved of fuel when driving so it seems unlikely to me that the fuel pump could be bad. I did a quick check on the fuel pressure regulator since I had one fail before that was dumping fuel into the vacuum line but this one is not.
I'm pulling out my hair on this one, any ideas??
