I bought a used head on fleabay, had is resurfaced, put in new valves, guides and seals. I used the loosen the engine mounting bolts, and shoved the engine over to replace both tensioners, chains and guides. Engine is smooth like new now. If you go this DIY route, be sure to order all the seals you need, head/valve cover gasket before you start. (Ask me how I know!)
If you have the head done, make sure the bolts for the camshaft bearings are put back on in the right holes. Some of the bolts have a longitundinal slot cut in the threades for oil supply to the camshaft. When I got the head back from the shop, they had put the bolts back in loosely (because tightening them would have pushed the new valves into the compression area above the pistons, possibly damaging them). I only noticed that the bolts hadn't been put in the right holes by referencing the Haynes manual (and then it was by accident on my part).
