300k is what I consider a high mileage engine on a well maintained Saab engine. Your almost 2/3 there. If you want to roll a chain in, get the tool. My 96/900s just turned 200k and the 91/92 900 are getting close to 200k. The most I would ever think to do is check the tensioner length to see if it's in accepted limit.. The car has a history of service and oil is the most important thing for moving metal parts. For myself, if I'm going into the engine that deep I would also change the sprocket and gear on the drive shaft along with the chain and guides. The chain not only stretches, but the sprockets wear too. I only heard about balancer chains and sprocket going bad in the newer generation Saab's. I brought my first Saab and was hooked. Swedish Steel.
