Clutch release bearing RR w/o trans removal?

We have a 95 900s that needs a clutch. Unfortunately, w/260k+ mi (orig clutch!) & rapidly advancing rust, the car isn't deserving of another $300 investment at this point. We need to get another year (or three) out of the car & I have to replace the release bearing before it seizes up. Time & money are in terribly short supply, so I'm wondering......does anyone know if there's room to back the transaxle away from the flywheel/clutch assy just enough to get the input shaft free of the pressure plate fingers so I can slip a new release bearing in place (by feel) without actually removing the transaxle? I figure 7" should be enough.
Possible?
Thanks for any insight.
