02 Viggen throttle body question & cold start problem Posted by Viggen Aero [Email] (#977) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Viggen Aero) on Fri, 4 May 2012 14:33:15 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
02 Viggen 68K- found small amount of oil inside throttle body at bottom. Does that signal a problem? If so what?
What fails on a throttle body?
I have had a long term cold start problem- long crank time for 30 + sec before it starts. At first it was only in 30 deg or colder weather, and after car sat for 12+ hours. Today it did same at 50 deg. In warm weather the crank time does seem to be a few cranks longer than normal- but not the 30+ sec when it's cold. I have checked everything I can think of. I don't drive the car much in winter, so it hasn't been a huge problem. But it seems to be getting worse. Car runs fine and has normal power as soon as it starts. No CEL's. Strong gas smell after it starts. I have checked or replaced the following:
1) Normal and steady fuel pressure as soon as the key is turned on and while cranking.
2) Have spark at all 4 coils and tested with known good DIC( date code 1047)
3) replaced plugs, Bosch fuel filter, and air filter. Also CPS & NTC sensor that were bad approx 1.5 yrs ago( not to fix cold start).
4) The problem seemed to have started not longer after all the things in # 3 above were replaced.
5) All vacuum lines replaced. Checked all over for vacuum leaks.
6) Checked Fuel Pressure regulator and it was not leaking into manifold.
7) Swapped out MAF from my other Viggen.
I still need to check:
The injectors to see if they are leaking.
The EVAP purge valve. Would that always throw a CEL if bad?
Map Sensor? Could that play a role?
The ECU- does it need a re-flash?
Throttle body?
What else is left to check??
thanks
Glen
