2001 9-3 SE with 151k on it. Local Indy says the struts need replacing and the control arms. All seals have rotted away on the control arms. No wonder the front end seems to be vibrating over bumps! Just went thru this with my 2002 and the knuckle or spindle assembly (he tube that covers the strut) had to be replaced also because it was rusted and wouldn't come off. My question is two fold, is it always a given that because of the age these tubes need to be replaced also? Do they ever come off without a fight? 2nd question, is this something a self taught mechanic can do, or do I need a mechanic to do the struts and control arms. My repair level has been cleaning the oil pan, dropping the sub frame, replacing parts like ABS/TCS, turbo valve, muffler, electrical interior parts, etc. thanks!
