Car developed an occasional no-start - one out of perhaps five or ten attempts. As always, feedback varies on the exact details of the no-start, but the common element seems to be nothing from the solenoid. I'm assuming it's the range switch/neutral switch/whatever you wanna call it.
I took apart the under-dash the other day, with intent on running a switchable bypass for the switch. Since it starts virtually all the time, I wanted a solution that would allow for some additional troubleshooting while minimizing the risk of getting stranded. ;)
The circuit goes key -> fuse 36 -> range switch -> starter relay. I have +12v going into the fuse (while the key is in "start") but only 1v coming back from the range switch. That is currently allowing the car to start just fine, but my question is: Is 1v here normal, or indicative that the range switch is in fact failing?
