So on my 3rd time taking out my manual trans on my 99 9-3. I found a few pointers that I think make this way easier. I was able to use a cherry picker this time and that does make it easier to start with. But in order to get the input shaft to go into the clutch pressure plate I find that getting the right side input shaft in first then taking a lower control arm bolt (per platonoff instructions) as a guide bolt (they are longer than the actual bell housing bolts). It can take a little bit of whiggling the trans around to get the input shaft in. It helps to lower the engine on the support bar as much as you can. get everything lined and and put in the guide bolt on the lowest point by the front of the car. Only screw in the guide bolt a little if you feel any pressure you did it too much. You want the trans to be able to move a little. Then under the car pull the trans into the input shaft (passenger side intermediate shaft)while turning it. The trans will go in almost right away with this method. I tried most other methods and this works almost instantly. If this is not working try manually turning over the engine a little also. Also note unlike cars with an external slave cylinder. The trans will not go all the way in and touch the engine. There will be about a 3cm gap even when the clutch plate has been lined up and "stabbed". this is the spring pressure on the throw out bearing. Also if you have primed the slave with brake fluid you have that resistance of pushing in the slave. It also can help if you remove the mid point engine mount from the back of the grearbox. Its a little tricky to get back in when back in the car but doable.
just my 2 cents of a lot of good points left out of the platonoff instructions.
Make sure to pre bleed the slave on hydraulic cars. Before putting back in the car.
