This is one of the jobs that can go very wrong and I would hesitate to do it in car due to that it is quite complicated even when the transmission is out of the car.
The original seal is in there pretty hard and bonded to transmission case due to years.
If you do have a special seal puller tool that fit onto the shaft and threads into the seal, then yes, that's perfect but I have not found one yet.
I have to carefully use a chisel and knock the outside edge slightly inwards to loosen the grip on transmission casing and then pry it out WITHOUT nicking or bruise the shifter shaft because if you do that, it will leak forever.
