Have never used anything but the Saab 0063 MTF fluid, so cannot comment on anything else. (Beside Redline MTF works great in my '91 900 5-spd) I have never seen oil leak from the shifter alignment plug hole, don't think it goes into the trans cavity. Usual suspects in that area are fill plug and trans shifter rod seal. Most common are the two axle seals on the diff.
2 Quarts is a bit too much fluid, it takes 1.7 Liters (1.79 Q). I wouldn't lose sleep over it though.
