1999 9-3 convertible with 135k miles. Increasing noise in belt area. Read on posts here that it might be a pulley. Already had short belt mod done prior to me owning it. Took tension off belt, removed belt (in good shape) and spun each pulley by hand. Only one that make a noise was the water pump one. Sort of a grinding or rubbing sound. Now that isn't what the noise sounded like when the car was running, but thinking when it's spinning faster I would hear a different sound. The sound I heard when the car was running with the belt was more of a thump. Also was concerned that oil leak at crankshaft could be contributing towards it? When I briefly started the car without the belt, the sound was not there, which let me to believe it wasn't crankshaft related. Any thoughts? Could it be the water pump? Thanks!
