did I save a Viggen from sludge death?

2000 Viggen, 136K miles. New to me, I have no maintenance records. Car has the PCV #6 update, no idea when it was installed. Previous owner (since 2007) says he used only full synthetic oil, didn't say what the oil change interval was.
I had pulled the valve cover off, and was delighted to see a clean top. But from other posts, a clean top is no indicator that all is well down below. I dropped the oil pan. No sludge in the pan. BUT, the pick up tube screen was about 85% clogged, honestly don't know why the motor didn't suffer oil starvation death.
Fortunately the motor makes no unusual noises, oil light never flickered. I'll install a new PU tube and stay on the 3K oil changes with full synthetic. Hopefully the oil pans with the access cover for inspecting and cleaning the PU tube screen will become available once again. (Anyone know where to find that?).
moral of the story, a clean top doesn't rule out a dirty bottom on these sludge prone cars.
