I had a problem with my 2002 9-3 SE 2.0 turbo purchased in Sept. 2013. On an intermittent basis, it would not crank over to allow it to start. This first manifested itself with a slow crank in very cold winter weather so I replaced the battery. Then I experienced the starter not cranking at all. After some persistence with the key, it often started until one day it would not crank at all. I thought I had it figured out a few times. I re-cleaned the battery terminals. I reached down with the battery disconnected to make sure the starter connections were not loose. I checked the relays under the dash - several are inter-changable so could be swapped to test. Nothing was working so I replaced the ignition switch. Still nothing. I jacked up the car with battery disconnected, used jack stands and crawled under to take a look at the starter. I put wrench on the nut holding the positive lead from the battery and although it was not loose, it was not tightened down all the way. I removed the nut, cleaned it and re-tightened it. That cured the problem and I have learned a lesson, again, to always check the basics! Who would have thought the nut would be not tightened all the way but not finger loose? Hopefully, this solves a problem for others.
