I don't know what can be done with limited resources.
When a problem appears right after a repair has been done and the problem was not there before the repair, you would think it has something to do with the repair.
It is a little bit more difficult if you only have a generic code reader since it could be a manufacturer specific code in the TCM that might shed more light on the problem.
Also, the trouble fault tracing tree start to talk about checking the bus system which can only be done with the Tech 2 scanner.
Two things to do. Lift off battery terminals and hold them together for awhile to maybe draw out some evil doings inside modules.
And if the car does not have CD changer in the trunk. Fold away left side trunk liner and see if the CD connector is rubbing up against the fender skin and if you see some green corrosion from it.
